The Logo:

The logo of Tarka Accord (left) is the oldest part of the organisation. It was designed during a discussion about North Devonshire (and other local) heraldry as a concept design for what a local organisation could theoretically use. The specific heraldic root of the logo is the centrepiece of the Barnstaple coat of arms (right).

The original image of the coat of arms, cropped to show only the centrepiece, was obtained from the Parish Councils (.uk) website.

As can be clearly seen, the logo is not an entirely faithful recreation of the Barnstaple Coat of Arms; this is due to its other influences aside from the previously mentioned heraldic one. When creating the logo, the ethos of Tarka Accord needed to be reflected in quite a simple and versatile design. This is why the logo was made to look quite modern and minimalist while paying homage to its history as we wanted it to reflect our simultaneous respect for the past yet also our understanding that we cannot be bound by it. An additional benefit of the simple design is that it makes the logo highly versatile.
